The 0Maths blogMarking done for you.
Most maths platforms can tell you how many answers your pupils got right, but that's only one small aspect marking. We do a lot more:
- We tell pupils when they're right. If they're not yet right, they simply continue working on the problem. This is much more useful to the pupil than being told they're wrong.
For many question types, at easier difficulty levels, each step along the way is marked, helping students avoid wrong answers for the sake of small errors. This is crucial for building confidence. It also reassures the pupil that they are making progress if a question has many stages.
- Wrong answers are a goldmine of information. We screen this data to alert you to certain types of misunderstandings and problems.
- No-attempt is the worst type of wrong answer; it shows a pupil has disengaged. These would be indistinguishable from calculation errors on multiple choice platforms. On 0maths pupils have a choice of ways to engage with a difficult problem:
- They can view a worked solution.
- They can make it easier for themselves - this may involve easier numbers, the question broken into stages, or an explanatory image or widget.
- If they still balk, they can switch to foundational topics to cement those before attempting the assigned questions.
- Time can be a useful performance indicator. Like other platforms, we record answering times. However, we do advise they're used with caution.
- Individualised tasks. 0maths can find where a pupil has weaknesses and have them work on those.
