What it means to learn at their own pace

It's often said that children will learn at their own pace. What's not so often said is that if their pace is below the pace of the top students, they'll have to spend more time on it to end up at the same place (eg, passing National 5 or GCSE).

School-level maths is not about genius, it's about practice. Some kids will need more practice than others.

Learning at thier own pace

2 minutes1 of targetted questions a day, every day, is all it takes to boost their chances of succeeding. During school holidays - when there's a temptation to skip it - the impact of extra study can be greatest. It keeps them moving forward while their peers are slowly forgetting things.

0maths is curriculum aligned, and has work grouped by school year so that you know that they're on target. You won't get the parents' evening surprise that the school won't allow them to sit their National 5.

  1. 2 minutes is a good achievable goal for extra curricular maths if it's been noticed in primary school that they're falling behind. At the other extreme, default targets for work duration are based on the lower quartile (ie bottom end of normal) for attention span at the age for the year group. These can of course be changed. For reference, these are:
    ReceptionP110 mins
    Year 1P212 mins
    Year 2P314 mins
    Year 3P416 mins
    Year 4P520 mins
    Year 5P620 mins
    Year 6P725 mins
    Year 7S125 mins
    Year 8S230 mins
    Year 9S430 mins
