The 0Maths blogADD / ADHD
For ADD & ADHD students the standard format works well:
- For some questions we offer instant rewards for each step of calculation. These help address their natural dopamine deficiency, increasing engagement and attainment:
- They like that there are no unnecessary steps: no multiple choice answers to consider, and no submit button to press (ie they can enter an answer after reading 2 numbers for basic numeracy questions, as opposed to 6 if there were 4 multiple choice options.) .
-
They like that explanations, where practical, involve one-glance visual explanations rather than videos that they're going to tune out from.
- We offer a lot of question types to give that racing brain somewhere to go and build understanding through multiple perspectives.
-
Hints help turn a hurried answer into a right answer.

We also offer a couple of optional ADD / ADHD specific adaptations:
- We can wind down the colour scheme, dimming non-core elements and reducing the colour palette.

- We can also cycle through question types more rapdly so that the maths keeps up with their racing attention without missing anything.
